Primary Cast Members

Alieta
Race: Apthemy, Corrupted (Emotional Harmonic: Hatred)
Age: 1538 (appears 27 in Corrupted Form and 13 in Child Form)
Height: 4' 11" both forms
Personality/Background: Perhaps one of the oldest Apthemites in existence, Alieta was also one of the most powerful. Quickly ascending to a matriarchal role in keeping Apthemy society organized she heralded a relatively peaceful millennium, until the corruption of Apthemy (which happened perhaps once or twice a decade) suddenly became a mild epidemic. Alieta used her powers to contain and purify many of those affected but doing so made her personally vulnerable. Shortly after Alieta herself was completely over taken by the corruption and became a malevolent force unrivaled by any other. The transformation turned the once kind and wise Alieta into a mind filled with dire schemes and frightening powers of manipulation. After her physical demise at hands of virtually ever Apthemy in her world Alieta was deposited in the Prime World, sent from the sky as part of a fallen meteor to be buried beyond the reach of curious humans.

Unfortunetly the best laid plans usually have one fatal flaw. This flaw would be the E.G.O.S Researcher Eridole. Eridole's EMA research led him to the eventual discovery of Alieta's crystal. Seizing upon the opportunity Alieta merged her emotions with his and began a plan to regain her body.

In corrupted form Alieta is full of bitter passion and can be quite rash despite having the wisdom and intellect to know better. This rashness has set her plan back many times, such as the first failed ascension attempt that forced Eridole to flee through time and the creation (and later abandonment) of her "daughter" Shida.

Avaril Iris Ovalia
Race: Human
Age: 18

Apthemy Partner: Presia (Affection)
Personality/Background: Avaril Iris Ovalia, is simply known as Aio by her own chosing. Aio was originally raised by her mother and father with her father being a well published writer, able to support them both just from his book sales. However when a tragic heart failure claimed the life of Aio's mother, her father slipped into a deep depression and only has kept himself alive so that Aio can make it through High School and into life on her own. As a result of living with such a broken man Aio has had a unique view to the lives of others and the society around her. She tends to be highly honest, straightforward, and extremely judgmental. If anyone affords a moral boundary of hers in her presence then she'll usually be sure to issue out a few choice words. If it were anyone else this might be a laughable show of arrogance but Aio has the uncanny ability to read a person's ego and say just the right thing to puncture it. Because of this many of her classmates despise and fear Aio, all except for one of the name of Eliza Belldante.

In truth however this jaded nature of Aio's is but an outward persona born of unusual circumstances in her life. Only Eliza has gotten close enough to know that once you chip away the rough exterior a loving, loyal, if not someone needy soul lies underneath. Aio can be quite affectionate to anyone she deems worthy of her trust, and also somewhat paranoid of any returned love being stolen from her one day in the same manner her mother and father's presence were yanked from her on that fateful day.

Eliza Belledante
Race: Human
Age: 17
Height: 5' 7"
Magical Girl Forms: Buster, Ice Elementalist
Apthemy Partner: Alyai (Perserverance)
Personality/Background: Eliza Belldante's family holds shares in almost every major corporation on the planet, including E.G.O.S. As such Eliza was born into a very rich and powerful family. However as with most families who have reached such a plateau of social status, the home life is somewhat neglected. With her parents always traveling from meeting to meeting Eliza has elected to live my herself (not counting her maids and butlers) in the Belldante estate in Aio's hometown since she was only 10 years old. Eliza was born as an exceptionally sensitive Albino, and as such she cannot tolerate being out in the sun for very long. This has led to her developing a more nocturnal sleeping schedule and it tends to interfere with a normal social life.

Many of her female classmates torment Eliza for two reasons: She is very beautiful and tends to garner a lot of attention however she tends to reject it, being of a more shy personality. Also, Eliza is a bit of a genius. Due to her sleeping patterns Eliza sleeps a lot through class but still manages to pass every exam with little to no studying. At heart Eliza is shy and reserved, but around her closer friends (such as Aio) she can become more bold and inquisitive. Sometimes this curious nature tends to get her into trouble. Aio and Eliza became friends when Aio one day stepped in to confront and drive off the girls who had been directly harassing Eliza. Ever since then her tormentors have resorted to more passive means out of fear of Aio's retribution.

Myna
Race: Human
Age: 17
Height: 5' 2:
Magical Girl Forms: Steam Elementalist
Apthemy Partner: Kiena (Faith)
Personality/Background: Born with an unusual tumor Myna's sight was claimed at the very young age of three. The tumor grew and consumed her entire cornea and iris, turning her eye color into two shades of pink. Due to her blindness Myna has been relatively ignored by her schoolmates and people in general. They speak to her only out of pity and a sense of "social show of piety". Myna knows this and has become somewhat of a mental recluse because of it. She spends her days working on hand sculptures making replications of the images in her head by sense of touch alone, often going for days at a time without saying a single word. Myna is unusual in that despite everything having gone wrong for her in the world she neither overcomes the adversity nor gives into it. Simply put, she has dedicated herself to merely existing for the sake of existence.

Notes: Myna's transformation will probably not appear in the first story. Whenever Myna transformed into her Elemental Buster form, she is granted the unique ability to "see" the world through the mana energy contained within matter. Anything that has mana is visible to her in the same way anything warm is visible to infrared vision. This can cause a problem of overconfidence though and there are times when Myna has tripped over something manaless resulting in an embarrassing face-fall forward.

Presia
Race: Apthemy (Emotional Harmonic: Affection)
Age: 250 (appears 24 in Corrupted Form and 12 in Child Form)
Height: Corrupted Form- 6' 1" Child Form- 4' 9"
Personality/Background: Presia was born into her world as an Apthemy aligned to the emotional of Affection. When she later became corrupted this changed to Possessiveness. After being returned to normal by Aio and later regaining her physical form as a child, Presia tended to exhibit many qualities of any normal girl of her age. She's energetic, always curious about everything, straightforward, and never serious about anything. Presia's playful nature can be somewhat infectious, and like the emotion she is aligned with Presia is completely filled with affectionate impulses. If you're her friend you can expect to be hugged or clung to quiet often during your down times. Because of her affectionate nature Presia can be quite defensive whenever someone insults or threatens the people she loves, and you do not want to cross this Apthemy when that happens.

Professor Eridole
Race: Human
Age: 21
Height: 5' 11"
Enhanced Form: Spiral Drill Battle Armor
Personality/Background: Eridole has led somewhat of a two-fold life. Before the story of Scarlet Dusk began he was a weapon's researcher under the ranks of E.G.O.S studying a new form of technology based upon emotions. He was highly devoted to his research until Alieta's arrival and corruption of his devotion into that of blind obsession. When under her influence Eridole can be somewhat cruel, doing whatever it takes to advance his research to the next level. Even if that involved kidnapping and torture.

However when things went wrong and he was forced to retreat to the past, he assumed the identity of "Professor" at the local school in order to find a new subject to test his E.M.A system on. As a Professor Eridole tends to be direct and short with students, however his inevitable involvement with Aio and Eliza end up forming a sense of warm in him beyond the control of Alieta. When Eridole is effectively "himself" he can be somewhat nervous and reserved, but with enough convincing even he can be made to let loose and have a good time with friends.

Despite not having a true "magical girl/guy" transformation Eridole can eventually hold his own in combat thanks to a special combat armor he trades favors with another E.G.O.S official for.

Note: Because Eridole often vanishes at night for his own personal research on the EMA system in secret, Aio and Eliza believe him to be his past self whenever Iris reveals she is his assistance at the E.G.O.S labs. Eridole recognizes her during their day-time run ins and is able to play along and keep up the charade until the last moment.

T.I.O
Race: Bio-Andriod
Age: In appearance 19
Height: 6'
Magical Girl Forms: Mecha-Magi
Apthemy Partner: Delphine (Curiosity)
Personality/Background: T.I.O was originally "born" in E.G.O.S Labs as a result of the tragic Aio incident. It became E.G.O.S' goal to provide the world with anti-Magical Girl weaponry should any such individual rise up to power like that again. T.I.O was the prototype in this experiment, however instead of a controllable weapon the scientists desired T.I.O was created with a fully functional AI and a personality of her own (although a highly under developed one). After fighting with Eliza T.I.O comes to understand what it is she wants for herself (to understand what her inner self really is) and leaves E.G.O.S, later to be replaced by the factory production line models, dubbed "Mecha-Magi".

Because of her unique birth T.I.O has only the barest shell of a personality. About the only trait she has been known to openly display is curiosity, and large amounts of it as she discovered everything the world has to offer for the first time.

T.I.O's name is short for Technical & Intelligent Overlord (as she was intended as a weapon meant to tower over and crush Magical Girls using their own E.M.A technology against them).

Important Note: T.I.O will probably not appear in this first story. However since she is a part of the main cast and a future MG for the team I felt it important to mention her and set up events that will lead up to her arrival.

Shida
Race: Human (Parallel Clone of Aio)
Age: In appearance 18
Height: 5' 10"
Magical Girl Forms: Dark Buster, Nuclear Buster
Apthemy Partner: Alieta (Hatred)
Personality/Background: Frustrated with Eridole's apparent "failure" in producing a prime subject for Alieta's E.M.A to harmonize with, Alieta attempted to correct the problem by taking the life energy from Aio and creating a parallel form of her. From this result came the being known as Shida. Unlike Aio, Shida not only affectionately sadistic (yes you read that right) but she tends to be coyly deceptive and almost as playful as Presia. Despite having the same physical age as Aio, Shida does not have a fully mature mind and tends to think like a child. This is what makes her most dangerous as her lack of understanding about morality and violent temper tantrums combined with her own phenomenal powers can result in widespread destruction on a massive scale. Because of her own immaturity Shida cannot understand concepts like betrayal, love, or faith very easily. Yet she is very loyal to those who would actually take the time to try and understand her, at least according to what she perceives as understanding people. Which due to her own naivety this tends to result in Shida being used and betrayed a lot, even by her own "mother".

Post Story Details: After the events of the main story Shida attempts to adjust to life as a normal individual. Ironically since she was born as a Magical Girl her "transformation" is actually powering down, rather than powering up. Shida might come off as a bit of a tomboy due to her rather aggressive and assertive nature but she has a few odd soft spots for cute things you would never expect from her. Including an unusually odd natural talent for cheer leading.

Shida's powers are still fueled by her "mother" Alieta. However due to the extensive damage she received in the final battle, Alieta will be sealed in crystal form for many centuries. It is Shida's unspoken hope that perhaps by watching over her mother some of the corrupting darkness will fade Alieta's heart.


Secondary Cast Members

Alice- This is the girl who originally displays potential to harmonize with the corrupted Alieta and serve as the vessel for her ascension back to a physical body. However due to Alieta's haste in the plan she is later killed due to a lack of higher harmonization against the forces of the F.E.F.

Before these events Alice is the social monarch of Aio's school and tends to clash with her and Eliza often. Alice sees it as her personal mission to torment Eliza whenever her perceived "spotlight" is stolen. She hates Aio because of her constant (and more than adequate) defense of Eliza and constant disruption of the status quo.

Sharon- Alice's friend, killed in the labs while trying to rescue her and is the initial factor while led to Alice's insanity/critical harmonization failure. Sharon is usually the first to support Alice's actions, acting as a loyal yes woman. This more comes from a legitimate sense of caring for Alice rather than the typical power leech you tend to see in similar positions.

Shelly- Alice's friend, killed in the same isntant as Sharon. If Sharon is the "brute force" behind Alice, then Shelly is easily the brains. While still willing to help Alice in her more diabolical schemes, she does attempt to talk Alice out of her more sadistic punishments and replace them with more practical ones. The more complicated schemes executed by Alice's group are usually concocted by Shelly.

Iris- Eliza's friend whose family dealings with E.G.O.S are greater than Eliza's. Tends to help Eridole (past) out with his research from time to time and is the one who grants access for Aio & Crew to the labs after noticing something is horribly wrong with Eridole. When she's not working at E.G.O.S she also holds a part-time job at the local cafe (rumor has it she does this more over an obsession for the cute uniforms rather than any need of income).

Overline Plot (chronologically)

The story technically begins during an experiment gone array in the depths of E.G.O.S. Months prior a researcher named Eridole discovered a strange crystal, which happened to contain the essence of a powerful corrupted Apthemy who wished to regain her former powers to destroy both the Prime World and Apthemyte World. This is unknown to Eridole who just pockets the crystal and brings it into work. Over time the Apthemy corrupts Eridole with ideas of power and greed, and this corruption leads to him developing the E.M.A. system and kidnapping a girl from a local high school to be the test subject. Time passes and many experiments later an explosion occurs and a Magical Girl consumed by pain and hatred is laying waste to the lower floors. She is facing off against a very powerful enemy (F.E.F: Four Elemental Fiends) also produced by the E.G.O.S lab, who end up eventually overwhelming and tearing her apart. Before his superiors can "take care" of Eridole for this massive failure, he manages to collect his research and flees into the past, using a highly experimental time machine. As a result, he escapes but only about four months into the past. Starting from scratch, he enrolls at the local high school as a professor in an attempt to find a girl who is more compatible with the corrupted E.M.A (although his desire at this point is really that of the Apthemy influencing him).

This is where Eridole discovered Aio, a friend of Eliza's, and finds her to be perfectly compatible with the contained Apthemy. He does not have to resort to any desperate measures though, as that evening (when planning on confronting Aio) another corrupted Apthemy (Presia) breaks into the Prime World. She has been drawn here by her need to feast upon lust and desire, which is being given off by a boy trying to take advantage of Eliza. Aio is in the school late, worried about Eliza and searching for her when she encounters the Apthemy and is attacked. Eridole saves her life at the last moment and gives her the E.M.A pendant, which immediately causes a transformation. Much to Eridole's dismay the compatibility seems to only be 60%, and it provides only enough power for Aio to fend off Presia. Through a fluke Presia is gravely wounded and confused as to why she has been fighting Presia. Aio confronts her verbally and learns that the only reason Presia is attacking is she perceived Aio as an obstacle between Presia and her meal as the boy definitely plans on "ruining" Eliza. This information causes a great anger to stir within Aio as Presia launches one last desperate attack.

However something deep has awakened within Aio, and she undergoes a second transformation into a much darker form which draws upon a vastly stronger power from the E.M.A. With this power however her personality has also warped into something more vile and sadistic, soon apparent as she easily beats Presia to a pulp and discovered the boy in the process of trying to seduce Eliza. It is only through Eliza's fearful expression that Aio stops and reverts to normal just before the boy could be obliterated by her attack.

Feeling sorry for Presia, Aio has sympathy for her and offers to do anything to help Presia in her final moments. This sign of affection purifies Presia and reverts her back to normal form, however her body was so badly damaged that she has to change into a form of energy and exist within Aio's weapon for a time.

The middle of the story is mostly character development, with the sub-stories as follows (in non-chronological order):

-Aio's personality gradually changes, and the E.M.A she wears generates a set of straps that wrap around her torso, making it impossible for Aio to remove the pendant when she realizes her Dark Form transformation might be effecting her personality.
-Eridole discovers that Aio's pendant is emitting a strange energy that is effecting the world around them. Resulting in strange monsters created from the warped emotional energy from time to time that attack anyone in the area.
-Presia eventually forming a new physical body (albeit in the form of a young girl rather than her prior adult form)
-The defeat of another corrupted Apthemy (Alyai) which Eridole then uses the crystal form of to create an E.M.A. for Eliza. (The crystal however has become purified.) Also shortly after this time period Eridole obtains his own battle armor in order to assist in the fighting directly.
-The "birth" of Aio's parallel self, Shida and her attempt to kill Aio and claim the pendant for herself (her desire for this is fueled by a desperate need for approval from her "mother, Alieta).
-Shida's later revival and "upgrade" thanks to E.G.O.S technology. Her treatment by E.G.O.S sends her into a berserk rampage but she is eventually saved by Aio. The favor is later returned when Shida buys her time by fighting against the F.E.F via her Nuclear Buster Form, also this is a form of betrayal to Alieta since Alieta had forsaken Shida to the minions of E.G.O.S for their experimentation. It is here Shida renounces her intention to kill Aio and seeks rather to protect her new "sister".
-The introduction of three female classmates, Alice (the unofficial "leader") loves nothing more to torment Aio and Eliza and is extremely spiteful. She is the one who is later kidnapped by past Eridole because her hateful nature makes her compatible with the corrupted E.M.A. past Eridole is still testing.
-Also the introduction of a blind girl, Myna (classmate) and a genius girl, Iris (friend of Eliza's) as semi minor characters. The blind girl is an artist whose sculpture of a golem later is corrupted by Aio's E.M.A. and has to be fought, and the genius girl is the one who leads the group into E.G.O.S later on to try and rescue the kidnapped classmate.

When the timelines begin to converge, the Eridole of the past kidnaps the classmate from the present and the group (sans Eridole) investigates into it. This eventually leads them to explore the E.G.O.S Lab. To note: Upon exploration they set off many of the security traps and the two classmate friends of the kidnapped classmate are killed by them. Just as they sneak into the depths, the past become present and the failed experiment from before breaks loose, resulting in the group being caught up in a large scale firefight. After the dust has settled, the F.E.F begins detecting the same signature on Aio they just finished destroying, and the E.G.O.S group sends everything they have after Aio in an attempt to kill her too as she is a part of this "failed experiment" now. The combined efforts of Aio and Eliza are not enough to bring them down, however intervention by the reborn Shida gives them time to escape their wrath momentarily. This leads to the entire town practically hunting Aio down, as during her Dark Form transformations she has accumulated a lot of collateral damage and not exactly been a well loved Magical Girl. In desperation she makes it through the bloodbath to Eridole, begging him to help her in this crisis. It is at this point that Eridole shows his true colors and reveals himself to be the mastermind behind everything that has happened to Aio, and that her existence itself is highly meaningless to him. Hurt and betrayed, the corruption of the Apthemy spreads to her core, and Aio becomes consumed by the hatred and reaches a whole new level of power.

This new Corrupted Aio lays waste to everything before her, defeating the F.E.F and even obliterating the E.G.O.S Lab itself before turning her malevolent powers upon the city which hates her and Eridole himself. Eliza steps in and tries to stop Aio from doing this, resulting in an end-game fight between the two of them. Eventually Aio overcomes Eliza and turns her sights on Eridole. Injured and unable to do much, Eliza stands directly between Aio and Eridole. In her corrupted state, Aio eventually fires an energy blast at them both. The mental shock of this breaks her free from the Corrupted Form and into her normal self, just in time to see Presia take the full hit of the blast for Eliza and apparently die.

Having absorbed enough hatred, the Apthemy break free from the crystal form and is reborn in full power and glory before them, inflicting a near mortal wound on Eliza and placing Aio at her dying friend's side so she can watch the death of the world brought about by her own internal rage and anger. In an emotional scene between the two of them, Eliza forgives Aio for everything she has done and a familiar voice speaks to Aio from behind. It is Presia, having been reduced to nothing but her pink crystal form. However with Presia as a willing power source, Aio is reborn into a new form using the power of affection for her friends who sacrificed so much to bring her back from the brink. With this new power she is able to fight against the reborn Apthemy and eventually erase her from existence permanently. Although the cost for this "war" has been long and terrible, and not being welcome anywhere Aio annexes herself to the Apthemy's dimension so Eliza and Eridole can live in peace as punishment for her crimes.


World Terms

Apthemy(te)- An Ampthemy (or rather known as an Ampthemyte) is a humanoid creature existing in a parallel world directly along side the Prime World and are normally invisible unless they cross over from their world into ours. These beings look human the the exception of naturally having extreme variation in skin, eye, and hair colors. Apthemytes are virtually immortal, living for centuries until their bodies can no longer function. When this happens, an Apthemy being will seal itself into a small crystal form, which is them immediately deposited in the Prime World and is normally unnoticed by everyday human activity. Once in crystal form, the Apthemytes will go into a dormant state usually for anywhere from 50 to 200 years before regaining a new physical form. Yet if the Apthemy chooses to do so they can still interact with the world by synchronizing with nearby humans and emplanting them with the Apthemy's stored emotional energy. In extreme cases Apthemy's can instill humans with overwhelming emotional feelings and desires that may not be remotely natural to their personality. (For example, a powerful Apthemy of affection could make an embittered human who rarely says "Hi" feel like hugging a friend.)

Ampthemytes fuel their existence by harmonizing with a very specific positive emotion (which varies from Apthemy to Apthemy) and drawing power from people who are emitting that particular emotion. You could call them a race of emotional vampires, only they do not steal these emotions from humans but rather draw power just by being near them. However because some emotions occur more often overall and in larger number, a type of hierarchical system exists amongst the Ampthemytes.

Unfortunately emotions also tend to be the greatest weakness of an Ampthemy as well as its source of strength. Very rarely dimension disturbances between the worlds can result in an Ampthemy becoming "corrupted". When this happens it begins to feed off negative emotions instead (usually the opposite of whatever emotion it was attuned to before), and will eventually start forcefully entering the Prime World and draining all the emotional potentiality from its victim.

Apthemyte Crystal- As discussed earlier, in crystal form an Apthemyte has the power to influence the emotions of people around them through their power. In addition, this energy stored within the regenerating Apthemyte can be converted to incredible sources of power in the Prime World. In relative terms, a single Apthemy in crystal form could power the entire world for 48 hours if it used all of its stored power in one non-stop stream.

Apthemyte History (modern)- Prior to the events of Scarlet Dawn, testing from the E.G.O.S Lab's experiments caused a large distortion in the Ampthemyte reality. This distortion ended up corrupting a very powerful and old Apthemy whose harmonized emotion was Love. The distortion created a entity of pure evil and manipulation, which took the combined force of virtually every Apthemyte to put down until it finally converted into a crystal form and was deposited in the Prime World. By chance, this crystal found it's ways into the hands of an E.G.O.S researcher named Eridole, and began the sad events to follow within Scarlet Dawn's pages.

E.G.O.S Lab- Enrichment of Genetical Organization and Structure, is the name of the organization funding not only a massive laboratory but also sponsors practically the entire city where the story of Scarlet Dawn takes place. This organization is primary a weapons research laboratory, focusing more on the science of genetic manipulation to create powerful yet horrific beings possessing frightening and great potential. Most of the research is kept secret and out of the public eye, and for good reason as most of what goes on beyond the basement level would drive the average person insane just to hear about, let alone see with their own eyes. Ranking members of this organization wear color-coded uniforms which symbolize which part of the facility they work for. Those with the black/blue/silver color scheme work in weapons and bio-tech; while those sporting white/red/gold are more involved in development and public relations. Typically E.G.O.S is run by six individuals with a 3/3 split between the two factions.

E.M.A Pendant- Stands for: Emotional Manipulation and Amplification. This is the technology constructed by Professor Eridole to utilize the power of an Apthemy in crystal form which endows a normal human with supernatural abilities. When an E.M.A. Pendant is socketed with an Apthemy Crystal, it must then be matched with a human who has a strong predilection towards the Apthemy's emotion of choice in order for that power to be accessed.

Because of this, the E.M.A Pendant relies on a "compatibility system" which may result in a partial use of its powers or a power overflow. For example, if a "Joy" E.M.A were given to a girl who was depressed all the time, that individual would only be able to withdraw maybe 10% of the pendant's power in a crisis (hardly enough for a transformation). However if you gave the same E.M.A to a girl whose smile alone outshines half the pep rally squad the E.M.A might perform a true synchronization and generate power equal to 125%+ of it's normal abilities.

When in the transformed state of an E.M.A. Pendant, the powers expressed depend solely on the user. Aio's for example, are usually the manifestation of pure hatred or fear. So it comes out as beams of energy and light, simple yet highly destructive.

F.E.F- Short for Four Elemental Fiends. The code name for the most destructive and terrible weapon of the E.G.O.S organization. They appear as young women with powerful weapons, but the skin is just a bio-shell. When overwhelmed by a powerful foe, the skin and bones of this shell are burst apart from the inside out and the machine beast within (thanks to exceptional compression technology) comes forth, the true horror of the F.E.F form.
